St. James Parish Schools fishing teams are growing and continuing to provide new and exciting opportunities to our students and our community.

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, St. James High School Fishing Coach, Blake Trosclair, in conjunction with other local teams including Lafourche Bassmasters, Vandebilt, E.D.White, Lutcher and St. Amant created the Bayou Region Summer Practice Tournament for students. Trosclair said this is their current off-season, but they typically still practice once a month. This practice tournament afforded students the opportunity to add a level of competitiveness to their monthly practice.

Coach Trosclair said that a new addition to the fishing team, is that students in grades 3-8 can now participate in the Junior Division as well. This will afford younger students the opportunity to fish competitively and represent St. James Parish Schools at local tournaments.

Both St. James High School and Lutcher High School have established fishing teams in which students can participate. The SJH fishing team was established roughly a year ago, and the LHS Fishing Team was established nearly 10 years ago. Both of these programs are an asset to St. James Parish Schools as they provide another avenue for students to participate within the community,

Coach Trosclair said the next Bayou Region Summer Practice Tournament will be held on July 27, 2024, and will take place at Bob’s Bayou Black Marina in Gibson, LA.
