St. James Parish Public School System Bag Protocol
In St. James Parish Schools, safety is our top priority, especially during athletic events. Therefore, a bag protocol has been developed for all large crowd athletic events. This proactive measure will enhance safety and contribute to an enjoyable fan experience. We are committed to providing a secure and enjoyable environment for our students, parents, and the community during all athletic events.
Effective on September 8, 2023 fans will be able to carry the following:
- See-through bags of any size.
- Non-see-through bags no larger than 8 1/2" x 11".
- Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap.
****All bags are subject to inspection upon entrance. ****
Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: coolers, backpacks, duffle bags and any non-see-through bag larger than the permissible size.
Any persons with a bag that exceeds the specified requirements will not be allowed entry.
***An exception will be made for medically necessary bags or diaper bags which may be subject to inspection at the entrance gate. Working personnel, including media, will continue to enter facilities through designated gates where bags may be subject to inspection. ***

Bag Protocol Frequently Asked Questions
For what events will the bag protocol be in place?
At this time, this protocol will be in place for any large crowd athletic event.
Can fans carry cameras, binoculars, smart phones, tablets, seat cushions, and or seat backs?
Yes, all these items can be carried into the athletic event on their own. This is not a restriction item that fans have been able to bring into the athletic event previously. It is only a restriction on the type of container used to carry the items.
What about bringing blankets and extra jackets/clothing in cold weather?
Fans will be able to bring these items into the athletic event by tossing them over a shoulder or arm. Items that are folded up may have to be opened up in order to gain entry into the athletic event.
Are all purses prohibited?
No. We are not banning all bags. Fans will be able to carry the following:
- See-through bags of any size.
- Non-see-through bags no larger than 8 1/2" x 11".
- Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap.
Do I have to put everything I’m carrying into the permissible bags?
No. We are limiting only the type of bags carried into the event, not items that you normally bring to an event. Therefore, you can carry typical small personal items in your pockets or jacket (i.e. keys, makeup, feminine products, comb, phone, wallet, credit cards, etc.), if you choose not to put them in a see-through bag or clutch. You can carry a blanket over your arms, and binoculars and/or camera around your neck or in your hands without the case. You can use the see-through bag and clutch to carry other items. You will continue to have the flexibility to bring a wide variety of approved items into the event. Every member of your family may carry in a permissible bag.
